EXPERIENCE – EDUCATION

August 2017-present ~ Art Teacher, Sophomore Advisor, Yearbook Advisor
Responsible for teaching fundamental and advanced visual art classes, including photography (darkroom, digital & narrative), drawing, painting, and sculpture. Developed and taught a new course, Programming Visual Art, in which students learn the Processing JS (JavaScript) language to create interactive, digital art. Worked with the English, History, and Technology departments to develop interdisciplinary projects. Advisor to the yearbook staff, who have repeatedly won Jostens’ Excellence Award. Advisor to 6-8 sophomores, meeting 3-5 times each week, guiding them in academics, interpersonal relationships, and stress management. As a member of the STEAM Task Force, helped spearhead the incorporation of eduScrum project management methodology into classrooms. Utilized grant funding received to improve STEAM course curriculum.

Responsible for Homeroom, Science (three sections), and Math (one section). Developed and executed lesson plans during permanent teacher’s parental leave. Projects included a study of human body systems that culminated in a video presentation of findings, using LEGO Mindstorms NXT robots to navigate the selected system as the students filmed and narrated its function and flow with iMovie.
January-March 2016 ~ Fifth Grade Language Arts/Math Teacher (Long-Term Substitute)
Responsible for Homeroom, Language Arts (three sections), and Math (one section). Developed and executed lesson plans over three months during permanent teacher’s maternity leave. Incorporated blended learning techniques, where possible, including IXL modules, appropriate YouTube videos, iMovie, Book Creator, and Flash Cards. In keeping with the grade’s winter Colonial Life theme, worked with girls during homeroom periods to hand-make a patchwork and embroidered quilt for the permanent teacher’s new baby. Collaborated with art teacher to develop creative Colonial Day activities and bound book covers for student writing.
